`The Other Russia` to hold new Dissenters` March in Moscow
The Other Russia, an opposition coalition comprising liberals, leftists and nationalists, has applied to hold a Dissenters` March on November 24, a member of the march`s organizing committee said on Friday.
"We have applied for 2,000 participants," Alexander Averin said, adding that there are three possible routes for the march in central Moscow.
Averin said the march will demand free parliamentary and presidential elections. Organizers expect to receive a reply from the City Hall by Wednesday.
Dissenters` Marches were held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Samara between April and June this year. The Kremlin drew harsh international criticism over the perceived aggressive police response at several of the marches.
In April, around 400 people, including chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov, a leading figure in The Other Russia, were detained in Moscow and St Petersburg.
